HONG KONG – CNOOC has approved ConocoPhillips’ depressurization and sealing plans for the Penglai 19-3 oil field offshore China.

Early this month, China’s State Oceanic Administration requested action to control fluid discharge from the field, protect the reservoir, and reduce reservoir pressure. It also ordered ConocoPhillips to develop a drilling plan for sealing seep sources.

According to CNOOC, numerous wells will be restarted to discharge fluid from the reservoir and reduce the pressure. This action will mainly be directed at wells in the high pressure zones or near the natural fault.

Drilling activities and other related operations will be performed on six wells in the area of platforms B and C, as additional measures for sealing seep sources.

ConocoPhillips must also improve monitoring of the dynamic reservoir condition, in particular the reservoir pressure during the process of fluid discharge and depressurization, and report the results in a timely manner to CNOOC.
