ABERDEEN, UK – Maersk Oil has contracted TWMA a contract to handle and dispose of subsea structures and equipment damaged in February when a storm hit theGryphon FPSO in the UK North Sea.
The storm moved the FPSO off station, necessitating a shutdown until facilities could be reinstated.
TWMA’s scope covers onshore handling, cleaning and cutting of risers, riser bases, flowlines, umbilicals, mid-water arches, and mattresses.
The recovered subsea structures and equipment will be transported Lerwick harbor, Shetland, off northern Scotland. From there they will be taken to TWMA’s onshore waste transfer station in Vatster Gott.
Brian Henderson, environmental services division manager of TWMA, said: “We anticipate that 95% of the subsea material recovered from the Gryphon field will either be reused or recycled, thus dramatically reducing the volume of waste sent for landfill.”
