SINGAPORE – Transocean Offshore Deepwater Holdings has exercised an option for a second newbuild high-spec jackup from Keppel FELS.
As with the first order, signed in February, this rig will be based on the KFELS Super B Class Bigfoot design, and is due for delivery in mid-2013.
The Super B Class Bigfoot features larger spud cans, expanding its operational coverage, especially in areas where soft soil predominates. Having larger spud cans, Keppel says, enables the rig to operate efficiently while minimizing potential leg penetration problems in soft soil.
Other features include a 1.5 million lb drilling system and a maximum combined cantilever load of 3,200 kips. Additionally, the rig will be installed with offline stand building features in its drilling system package, allowing simultaneous drilling and preparation of drill pipes.
Furthermore, the rig can drill at a 75-ft (23-m) outreach, allowing for coverage of a larger well pattern.
