LONDON – Serica Energy is drawing up plans to resume drilling offshore western Ireland.
The company has a 50% operating interest in Slyne basin blocks 27/4, 27/5 (west) and 27/9, covering a total area of 611 sq km (236 sq mi), and including the Liffey and Boyne prospects.
In 2009, Serica discovered shallow, but non-commercial, Jurassic oil in the Bandon structure via well 27/4-1.
However, Liffey and Boyne are deeper-lying Jurassic oil prospects which are potentially of commercial size, and there are further separate gas prospects at those locations. Serica has acquired site survey data in preparation for a drilling program to test these prospects and is currently seeking a farm-in partner.
The company has a 100% interest in north-east Rockall basin blocks 5/17, 5/18, 5/22, 5/23, 5/27, and 5/28, covering a total area of 993 sq km (383 sq mi).
Only three wells have been drilled to date in the 100,000-sq km (38,610-sq mi) basin. Of these, Shell’s 12/2-1 Dooish gas-condensate discovery, 9 km (5.6 mi) south of Serica’s license, encountered a 214-m (702 ft) hydrocarbon column.
A large exploration prospect, Muckish, has been identified on the licence, extending more than 30 sq km (12 sq mi) in a water depth of 1,450 m (4,757 ft). Serica will look for a partner to participate in a well.
