OSLO, Norway – The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has authorized OMV Norge to drill well 6407/5-2 S in Norwegian Sea license 471, using the semisub Borgland Dolphin.

PL 471 comprises blocks 6407/2 and 6407/5. The well will be drilled around 10 km (6.2 mi) west of the Statoil-operated Mikkel field.

The license was awarded in February 2008 under Norway’s APA 2007 licensing round. This is the first well to be drilled in the concession.

Drilling will start after the rig has completed its current wildcat well for E.On Ruhrgas Norge in PL 416.
