Lundin drilling probes Malaysian offshore basement prospect

STOCKHOLM, Sweden – The jackup Offshore Courageous has started drilling the Batu Hitam prospect offshore Malaysia for Lundin Petroleum.

The Batu Hitam-1 well aims to test the hydrocarbon potential of a large basement high structure in the east of the PM308A block, off the eastern coast of peninsular Malaysia. Main objectives are Oligocene sandstones in a four-way dip closure and fractured pre-Tertiary basement in the underlying horst block.

Planned TD is 2,450 m (8,038 ft) subsea. Drilling should last around 40 days.
