RIO DE JANEIRO – The Guará Sul extension well in Brazil’s Santos basin presalt confirms the “continuity of accumulation” says Petrobras.

Officially named 3-SPS-82A (3-BRSA-923A-SPS), the well is 5.7 km (3.5 mi) south of the discovery well in 2,156 m (7,073 ft) of water 315 km (196 mi) off the state of São Paulo.

Preliminary analysis indicates “satisfactory reservoir conditions and later continuity” with pressures comparable to the discovery well. Cable tests show 27º API oil, and formation testing is planned.

Petrobras is the consortium operator for exploration in block BM-S-09 (45%), in partnership with the BG Group (30%) and Repsol Sinopec Brasil (25%).

In other Santos basin play, OGX is finding hydrocarbons in the Santonian sandstone in much shallower water.
