THE HAGUE, the Netherlands – Shell UK Ltd. says the oil leak from a flowline to the Gannet Alpha platform is under control. The subsea well was shut in and the seabed flowline was isolated and depressurized.

Shell’s estimate is that 1,300 bbl of oil was the volume spilled, and the high winds and waves over the weekend substantially reduced the size of the sheen.

Shell says its emergency response team and the standby vessel Grampian Prince remain on duty at the platform.

All personnel are reported to be safe, and the platform remains in operation.
