LONDON – Ensco has taken delivery of the ENSCO 8504, the fifth of seven ultra deepwater semisubmersible drilling rigs built by Keppel FELS Ltd. in Singapore.

After mobilizing to Brunei to complete deepwater trials and final outfitting, the rig will begin a contract for Total E&P Deep Offshore Borneo.

The design includes a 35,000-ft (10,668-m) nominal rated drilling depth, 2 million pounds of hoisting capacity, 8,000 tons of variable deck load and an open layout suited for subsea completion activities. The 8500 Series may be modified to drill and complete wells in water depths up to 10,000 ft (3,048 m).

The remaining two rigs under construction are scheduled for delivery in the first half and second half of next year, respectively.
