BENGHAZI, Libya – Eni has signed a memorandum with the Libyan National Transitional Council (NTC).

The two parties have committed to establish conditions for a swift and comprehensive recovery of Eni's oil and gas activities in Libya, and in particular to restart operations on the Greenstream pipeline taking gas from the Libyan coast through the Mediterranean Sea to Italy.

Following the joint declaration which the NTC and Italy’s government signed on May 31, Eni has supplied a first consignment of refined petroleum products to NTC to meet the needs of Libya’s population.

Eni will also provide technical assistance to assess the state of the country’s facilities and energy infrastructure, and to define the type and extent of operations needed to safely restart activities.

The company has been active in Libya since 1959 and claims to be the largest foreign player in terms of hydrocarbon production.
