Det norske cleared to drill Ulvetanna oil prospect in North Sea

Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has approved Det norske oljeselskap’s request to drill the Ulvetanna prospect.

TRONDHEIM, Norway – Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has approved Det norske oljeselskap’s request to drill the Ulvetanna prospect.

The jackup Maersk Guardian will drill exploration well 3/4-2S in block 3/4 in production license 356 in the southern Norwegian North Sea. Start-up is planned for end-September. The main aim is to drilling for oil in the Ekofisk- and Tor formations.

The well will be drilled in a water depth of around 51 m (167 ft), to a TD of 3,050 m (10,006 ft).

Det norske operates the license, awarded under Norway’s APA 2005 licensing round, with a 60% interest. Repsol, which entered the license last year, holds 40%.
