LANCASTER, UK – Chevron has awarded a mooring connector contract to First Subsea covering work at the semisubmersible hub production facility for Jack and St. Malo fields in the Gulf of Mexico.

The FPU, in 2,133 m (7,042 ft) of water, will be moored by 16 Ballgrab connectors attached to polyester mooring lines in a 4 x 4 arrangement. The receptacle ends will be installed subsea with the suction piles. The connector ends will be lowered from the surface to make the connection.

First Subsea said these Ballgrab III male connectors will be the largest produced to date at 2,599 metric tons (25,491 kN) and are the first to comply with the new ABS Mooring Guide 2009.
