EDINBURGH, UK – Cairn Energy is reviewing exploration opportunities offshore Lebanon. The company has been studying the potential of the offshore Levant basin in the eastern Mediterranean, which has brought deepwater gas discoveries for Noble Energy.

Over the next year, various countries in the region are all expected to hold competitive exploration bid rounds.

Cairn operates a newly formed, three-company consortium which aims to participate in the anticipated Lebanon licensing round (and perhaps other rounds elsewhere in the region), subject to final technical evaluation and commercially suitable terms.

The partners are CC Energy Development (an associated company of CCC, a Lebanese private concern) and UK independent Cove Energy.
