GURGAON, India – Cairn India is taking steps to slow the production decline from its Ravva field in block PKGM-1 in the Krishna Godavari basin off eastern India.

The company has completed infill drilling of five wells, including one horizontal well. This campaign was designed to help slow production decline from the field, add incremental reserves, and increase its water injection capacity.

Ongoing workover activities are intended to boost oil production and water injection.

The partners have also implemented 4D seismic as part of their efforts to identify bypassed oil zones in the reservoir, slow down the production decline rate, and evaluate further potential in the deeper zones.

Offshore Sri Lanka, the company’s Cairn Lanka subsidiary acquired and interpreted 1,750 sq km (676 sq mi) of 3D seismic data in the SL 2007-01-001 block in the frontier Mannar basin during December 2009 to January 2010.

It has since identified several prospects and leads, and pursued technical studied to evaluate the basin’s petroleum system.

The drillship Chikyu has been mobilized and should start a three-well exploration drilling campaign in the block next month.
