DALLAS -- Kosmos Energy has issued an update on its Makore-1 exploration well on the West Cape Three Points Block offshore Ghana.
The well encountered 37 m (121 ft) of good-quality Campanian-age water-bearing sandstone reservoirs and 46 m (151 ft) of good-quality Turonian-age water-bearing sandstone reservoirs.
This was Kosmos’ first well in the southeastern portion of the block. It was drilled to explore a stratigraphic trap in a Turonian-age fan system, 25 km (15 mi) southeast of the company’s Mahogany-1 exploration well that discovered the Jubilee field.
SemisubmersibleAtwood Hunter drilled Makore-1 well in a water depth of 1,409 m (4,623 ft) to a TD of 3,876 m (12,716 ft). It will remain on the block to drill the Akasa-1 exploration well, previously known as the Dahoma updip prospect.
