THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The Gorgon LNG project took another step forward as operator Chevron Australia Pty Ltd awarded CB&I the mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation work for the three onshore LNG trains to be built on Barrow Island, Western Australia.
Gas for the 15 million metric ton/yr (530 MMcf/yr) total liquefaction capacity facility will come from the Greater Gorgon gas fields found between 130 km (81 mi) and 200 km 9124 mi) offshore.
The contract value is pegged at $2.3 billion and work is scheduled for completion in 2015. In 2009, CB&I was awarded the engineering, procurement, fabrication, and construction of two 180,000 cu m (6.4 MMcf) LNG tanks, four condensate tanks, and associated utilities.
The Gorgon project is a joint venture of the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (approximately 47%), ExxonMobil (25%) and Shell (25%), Osaka Gas (1.255), Tokyo Gas (1%) and Chubu Electric Power (0.417%).
