Bømlo/AALESUND, Norway -- Statoil has awarded Eidesvik Offshore a five-year charter for the platform supply vessel Viking Avant offshore Norway. The contract has options for three single-year extensions.
Statoil has also chartered the PSV Viking Lady from Eidesvik Shipping, a subsidiary of Eidesvik Offshore, under a two-year charter – again in the Norwegian sector – with two single-year options.
Unlike previous PSV designs,Viking Avant was built with its bridge and engine aft. Aims behind this arrangement are to reduce motions and noise in the superstructure, improve quality of onboard working hours for the crew, along with conditions in living and working areas, all of which are located above the main deck.
Viking Lady is Eidesviks` third vessel of this design, but also employs a dual-fuel LNG/diesel-electric power plant, designed to cut NOx emissions.
Another Norwegian vessel owner, Aalesund-based Farstad Shipping, has contracted STX OSV to build two UT 731 CD-type anchor handling offshore service vessels for around $218 million.
The vessels, designed by Rolls Royce Marine, will both be 87.4 m (287 ft) and 21 m (69 ft) broad, with a bollard pull of roughly 260 t and installed power of 24 000 hp. Both will also be built according to DNV's Clean Design classification, for safe and efficient deepwater operations.
The steel hulls will be built in Romania with outfitting performed by STX OSV Langsten in Tomrefjord, Norway. The vessels should be delivered in April and June 2013.
