ABERDEEN, UK – DEO Petroleum expects to submit a plan for the Perth field development in the UK North Sea by end-September.
Perth is 185 km (115 mi) northeast of Aberdeen in a water depth of 137 m (450 ft). It was discovered in 1983, the well testing oil in the Claymore sands of the Upper Jurassic Kimmeridge clay formation.
Three appraisal wells and one side track were drilled by Amerada Hess during 1992-97, testing at rates varying from 1,000-6,000 b/d of oil. All the wells had quantities of hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide in the associated gas.
DEO expects to receive approval for its plan by Q1 2012. Discussions are in progress concerning two main options: a subsea tieback to the Tartan platform and an FPSO development.
The DEO board believes oil recovery would likely be greater with the FPSO option, as available production capacity would be higher. Also, application of water injection technology is expected to improve the recovery rate significantly.
