RIO DE JANEIRO – OSX Brasil SA says it now has approval to begin construction of a shipyard at the Acu port complex in Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil.

OSX says work will start in July on what will be “the largest shipyard in the Americas.” OSX will partner with Hyundai Heavy Industries co. to build the facility.

OSX plans to build vessels for OGX Petroleo e Gas Participacoes SA at the 2,400-m (7,874 ft) docks. OSX told Dow Jones that the shipyard will have the capacity to build up to 11 FPSOs at once.

In additional work at Acu, LLX Logistica SA, which is responsible for construction at the port, said it has received an environmental permit to construct a navigation channel. The channel, called TX2, will provide 8,000 m (5 mi) of quayside.
