RIO DE JANEIRO – OGX Petróleo e Gás has completed the horizontal drilling and a drillstem test at OGX-9-44HP-RJS (Waikiki Horizontal) in block BM-C-39, Campos basin, offshore Brazil.

The test confirmed a production potential of 40,000 b/d of 23º API oil, says OGX.

The well plan called for drilling a directional well to 2,340 m (7,677 ft) and then a horizontal section 1,063 m (3,488 ft) into the carbonate reservoirs of the Albo-Cenomanian. Selective acidizing over eight well intervals in the horizontal hole maximized flow.

"The information obtained through this well strengthens our understanding of this part of the Campos basin and will allow us to accelerate the process for the declaration of commerciality for this area, ensuring the full implementation of our business plan,” commented Paulo Mendonça, general executive officer and exploration officer for OGX.
