HAMILTON, Bermuda – Seadrill has awarded Keppel FELS a near-$200 million contract to build a new semisubmersible self-erecting tender rig, based on the KFELS SSDT 3600E design.
This price includes the drilling equipment set (which Seadrill will provide), project management, spares, capitalized interest and operation preparation.
The rig is scheduled for delivery during Q2 2013 and will be based on a similar design and specification as the semi-tenderWest Jaya, which Keppel FELS delivered in March and which has been contracted for a minimum of two years.
It is suited for harsher environment and deepwater drilling operations (up to 5,000 ft, or 1,524 m) in combination with floating wellhead platforms such as TLPs and spars. The new unit is based on the KFELS SSDT 3600E design – features will include crane capacity of 250 metric tons (275 tons), four mud pumps and accommodation for 160 people.
