ST. PETERSBURG, Russia – Gazprom could extend its overseas offshore operations to Sri Lanka.

This follows talks at last week’s St. Petersburg International Economic Forum between Alexei Miller, chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Mahinda Rajapaksa, Sri Lanka’s president.

The agenda included prospects for bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, and Gazprom’s participation in offshore E&P programs.

According to the Sri Lankan government, eight petroleum blocks have been identified in the Mannar basin off the country’s northwestern coast.
