SINGAPORE – Floatel International has awarded Keppel FELS a $260-million contract to build a new accommodation semisubmersible for delivery early in 2014.

The rig will be built to Keppel’s SSAU4000NG design and will have DP-3 capability. This will be Keppel FELS' third accommodation semi project for Floatel, following the delivery last year of the DP-2 semi Floatel Reliance and the DP-3 Floatel Superior.

The SSAU4000NG is an enhancement of the SSAU 3600 design with improved operability, says Keppel FELS. It complies with HSE requirements to work in the UK North Sea and in the Gulf of Mexico, offshore Brazil, and Western Australia.

According to Keppel, it features state of the art recreational facilities and accommodation for 500 personnel in one- and two-man cabins.

The DP-3-enhanced station-keeping allows the rig to operate alongside fixed platforms, floating platforms, and FPSOs, while carrying a full range of deck cranes and fire-fighting facilities.

Floatel’s existing rigs currently work for Petrobras in the Campos basin and for Statoil on the Oseberg field in the Norwegian North Sea.
