ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan – Dragon Oil has completed a further development well on its Cheleken Contract Area fields in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea.

The jackup Iran Khazar drilled Dzheitune (Lam) B/155, the sixth well drilled from the Dzheitune (Lam) B platform. It was designed as a delineation-development well to exploit the westernmost edge of the Dzheitune (Lam) West structure.

The well was drilled to a depth of 2,800 m (9,186 ft) and completed on a dual production basis, intersecting several oil-bearing sands en route.

A combined test produced 783 b/d of oil, comprising 611 b/d from the short string and 172 b/d from the long string. Further testing is planned – Dragon will use the results from this well to update its geological models and also its future drilling plans in that part of the field.

The Iran Khazar rig has since skidded to the next slot to spud the Dzheitune (Lam) B/157 well. Another rig, the NIS, is currently drilling the Dzheitune (Lam) 28/156 well.
