WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation, and Enforcement says it is making improvements in the oil and gas permit application process. These improvements include an application checklist, completeness checks by BOEMRE before spending time reviewing the application, and development of “clear permit review priorities that will expedite agency reviews.”
The bureau also has set priorities for reviewing permit applications as follows:
1. Ongoing operations such as side tracks or deepening of an existing well
2. Applications deemed complete
3. Applications that are not complete, which includes those without an approved exploration or development plan.
BOEMRE says it has 24 pending permits, has returned 18 applications to get more information, and has approved 43 deepwater permits for 15 unique wells that require subsea containment.
