STOCKHOLM, Sweden – Appraisal drilling has confirmed Lundin Norway’s extension of its Avaldsnes oil find in the Norwegian North Sea.

Appraisal well 16/3-4, drilled by the semisub Bredford Dolphin 6.5 km (4 mi) southeast of the 2010 discovery well (16/2-6), proved a 13.5-m (44-ft) oil column in good-quality Jurassic sandstone.

Lundin adds that net pay was higher than at 16/2-6, and logging/coring data suggests strong reservoir properties, with average porosity of around 30% and multi-darcy permeability. Average flow was more than 5,500 boe/d through a 60/64-in. choke.

The well will be side tracked to confirm lateral continuity of the reservoir toward the west (an area previously assume to be non hydrocarbon-bearing) before being plugged and abandoned. TD is 2,020 m (6,627 ft).

Lundin operates Avaldsnes, in partnership with Statoil Petroleum and Maersk Oil Norway.
