LONDON – Ndovu Resources, a subsidiary of Aminex, has spud the Nyuni-2 well offshore Tanzania.
The land rig Caroil-6 is drilled the well from a surface location on Nyuni Island, 30 km (18.6 mi) from mainland Tanzania, and south of the Rufiji River delta.
The well targets the same Neocomian sandstones that form the reservoirs in the nearby Songo-Songo gas field and in Aminex’s Kiliwani North gas field reservoir.
Another target is an Aptian/Albian sandstone reservoir logged as gas-bearing in the Nyuni-1 well, which was drilled but not tested in 2004.
Nyuni-2 will be deviated to the southeast 29º from vertical to a bottom-hole location 1,200 m (3,937 ft) from the island. Anticipated total measured depth is 3,325 m (10,909 ft), and TVD subsea 2,964 m (9,724 ft). Drilling to target depth should take nine to 10 weeks.
This is Aminex’s fourth operated well in the Nyuni area. Two of the earlier wells brought commercial gas discoveries.
Partners in the well are RAK Gas, Bounty Oil, and Key Petroleum.
