ASKER, Norway – TGS has started acquiring multi-client 3D seismic data in the Hoop Fault Complex area of the Barents Sea.
This survey is an extension of the previously announced Hoop Fault Complex survey, and should add 1,800 sq km (695 sq mi) to the existing data over the region.
Around 500 sq km (193 sq mi) will be infill in the northern area of the 2009 survey, with the remaining 1,300 sq km (502 sq mi) an extension to the eastern area of the 2009 survey.
Norway’s Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has awarded blocks in the survey area during the last two rounds, and following this year’s program, TGS says it will be able to provide extended coverage for future rounds.
TGS has also started work on three 2D seismic surveys off northwest Europe, in cooperation with Fugro.
Around 10,000 km (6,214 mi) of data will be collected for the North Sea Renaissance 2011 program, a regional infill west of Shetland using theM/V Bergen Surveyor.
Another 10,000 km will be compiled for a Norwegian Sea regional infill program by theM/V Akademik Shatskiy; and the M/V Akademik Lazarev will compile a similar volume of data for a Norwegian Barents Sea regional infill campaign.
On completion, TGS will have built up a long offset grid totaling around 285,000 km (177,091 mi). This data will be available to companies bidding for licenses in the Norwegian and UK sectors.
It will be jointly processed by TGS and Fugro, with delivery of time and depth products due to start later this year. Completion of all three projects is scheduled for end-March 2012.
