ABERDEEN, UK -- Mooring Systems Ltd has introduced an adaptable offshore, mobile spooler. It was designed and built by Caley Ocean Systems in East Kilbride, Scotland and has been transported to Mooring Systems’ warehouse and quayside facility at Montrose on the east coast.
The 400-metric ton capacity spooler can accommodate a wide range of flexible products including umbilicals, dynamic risers, marine hoses and cables. It can deliver nearly 20 km (12 mi) of 100-mm (3.9-in.) cable in one batch.
Its modular design allows for quick dismantling and loading onto road transport.
The spooler has been designed to comply with the latest Lloyds Register rules for lifting appliances in a marine environment, and is suitable for lifting with the hose or cable pre-loaded. The carousel comes with an integrated hydraulic power pack and controls, all rated IP56.
According to Mooring Systems, it fills a gap between conventional reels, which carry smaller payloads and the 1,000-mt (1,102-t) plus turntables and carousels that take longer to deploy.
