MANCHESTER, UK -- AV Technology Ltd (AVT) has completed a noise and light emission assessment for Prosafe.

The program involved reviewing and making recommendations related to noise, vibration, and light levels on Prosafe’s Regaliaaccommodation support semisubmersible, which was due to undergo a refit ahead of an assignment on BP’s Valhall field offshore Norway.

Vessels entering Norwegian waters are expected to comply with appropriate standards on vibration and noise, particularly the NORSOK rules which stipulate noise level controls in accommodation.

AVT was tasked with identifying the best ways for Prosafe to reduce noise levels in the cabins, and then demonstrate the impact of these recommendations. Instrumentation applied included specialist equipment to measure existing noise and vibration levels, acoustic performance, and the program was extended to post-construction trials at sea.

Early interventions by AVT consultants during the rig’s design process allowed Prosafe to implement modifications in the rig’s internal and external areas prior to installation of a new 380-bed accommodation block.

AVT conducted the initial baseline measurement when Regaliawas operating in UK waters. It confirmed that there were some areas where noise treatment was needed. A report was compiled using noise and vibration contours to map existing noise levels, and AVT used this to advise on acoustic insulation requirements for the internal and external partitions.
