OSLO, Norway -- Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway has issued consents for three separate work programs on the Norwegian shelf.
PSA has approved Statoil’s request to extend use of the production facilities on the Norne field in the Norwegian Sea beyond their original design life (up to 2016) through end-December 2021. This is because the resource base in the area supports a further 10 years of production. Norne is an oil field in production license PL 128, in blocks 6608/10 and 6608/11, which was brought onstream in November 1997.
It was developed with an FPSO connected to five seabed templates, in addition to the satellite fields Svale, Stær, and Urd. Under the extension, various modifications will be implemented to the topsides and risers, and on subsea templates K and M.
PSA has also approved BP Norge’s plans for manned underwater operations (MUO) on its Valhall re-development and Skarv development projects in the North Sea and the Norwegian Sea, respectively. Subsea 7 will perform 14-day programs on both fields between May and September, using either the DSVSeven Pelican or the DSV Seven Havila.
Finally, Det norske oljeselskap has authorization to drill exploration well 25/6-4 in the North Sea using the semisubSonga Delta. The well will be drilled in PL 414, 20 km (12.4 mi) east of Frøy, and could be followed by a sidetrack. Water depth is 114 m (374 ft). Drilling will start in July, with an expected duration of 30 days. On completion, the well will be permanently plugged and abandoned.
