BANGKOK – The Japanese earthquake and subsequent flooding has impacted the rig manufacturing business in Asia. Keppel FELS has notified Asia Offshore Drilling Ltd. that it is declaring a Force Majeure event regarding construction of two high specification jackup drilling rigs.

Keppel FELS said the impact on the delivery schedule is due to delays in steel arriving from Japan and that the delay would move the delivery out by six weeks from March 1, 2013, to April 15, 2013, on the first rig. At this time, Keppel says the second rig remains scheduled for delivery by Dec. 1, 2012.
