TEHRAN-- The Kish field in the Persian Gulf could hold gas reserves of over 70 tcf, according to Iran’s Petroleum Engineering and Development Co. (PEDEC).

Managing director Naji Sadouni, speaking to Iranian news service Shana, said development of three phases of Kish had been awarded to a consortium including Iran’s Bank Mellat.

Drilling of the first well started in February 2010, he added, and the first-phase wells should be completed in the near future.

Kish operator NIOC plans to produce 15,000 b/d of gas condensate, 970 MMcf/d of sweet gas, and 4 ton/d of sulfur. Some of the gas will be sent to Oman via a 200-km (124 mi) pipeline.

The field is 30 km (18.6 mi) offshore Lavan Island.
