DOUGLAS, UK -- Bahamas Petroleum has contracted CGGVeritas to acquire a 3D seismic survey over its southern license areas offshore the Bahamas.

The program, due to start this month, will cover around 3,000 sq km (1,158 sq mi) and will take roughly 90 days to complete.

The survey will be performed by the SR/V Veritas Viking, and has been designed to incorporate CGGVeritas’ proprietary BroadSeis imaging technology and streamer geometry.

Following on from this work, Bahamas Petroleum plans to conduct multi-beam seabed imaging and hydrocarbon seep studies.

CEO Dr. Paul Crevello said: "We are confident the 3D survey will further de-risk the prospects and enable us to choose multiple drilling locations. We will focus the 3D survey on the major prospects defined by the January 2011 2D PSTM processed data, results of which we expect to release in the coming weeks.”
