HAMILTON, Bermuda -- Murphy Sabah Oil has contracted Seadrill’s semi tender rig West Menang to work on the Kikeh Spar deepwater field offshore Malaysia.

The contract value is around $100 million, including mobilization and modification works, and is due to start by mid-year.

Seadrill has also exercised an option to build a new tender barge, T17, at the COSCO Nantong Shipyard in China. The vessel should be delivered early in 2013. The estimated price is $115 million, including project management, drilling and handling tools, spares, and capitalized interest.

T17 is similar to the two tender rigs Seadrill ordered from COSCO earlier this year, designed with a focus on higher drilling efficiency, partly provided by lightweight drilling equipment.
