Fairplayer to deploy Laggan Tormore protection structures

ROTTERDAM, the Netherlands -- Allseas has subcontracted Jumbo Offshore for subsea installations for Total’s Laggan/Tormore development in the northern UK offshore sector.

This June, Jumbo’s DP2 heavy-lift vessel Fairplayer will install four subsea protection structures for production flowlines at 600 m (1,968 ft) water depth. These will transport gas- condensate from the two fields, located 125 km (77.7 mi) northwest of the Shetland Islands.

The subsea production and pipeline system will be the deepest to date in UK waters and includes two 18-in. (45.7-cm) production flowlines. These will connect the subsea production facilities to the onshore processing terminal at Sullom Voe (Shetland).

Both flowlines require protection structures at the Tormore starting point and at the Laggan tie-in location.

Fairplayer will mobilize in Rotterdam, taking onboard temporary accommodation units for up to 65 personnel, and preparing its deepwater deployment system (DDS).

The four structures, comprising six elements, vary in weight from 180 tons to 270 tons and measure 38 x 21 x 6 m (124 x 69 x 19.7 ft). Fairplayer will make two consecutive journeys, on both occasions transporting and installing two structures in three lifts. These will be installed at 600 m water depth using the DDS.

Following completion of this work, Jumbo plans to keep HLV Fairplayer in the North Sea area for other installation opportunities.
