TRONDHEIM, Norway -- Det norske oljeselskap has ruled out submitting a plan for development and operations this year for the Frøy field in the Norwegian North Sea.
The company had hoped to file its plan this fall with a FPSO concept. However, it first wanted to evaluate use of simultaneous water and gas injection (SWAG) to aid production, rather than water injection only. However, results from these studies indicate that SWAG would only have a marginal impact on project economics.
Det norske and partner Premier Oil Norge decided to push the project forward in January 2008, but there have since been numerous delays to the time table – the main reason being the need to explore alternative development concepts.
Frøy holds about 60 MMbbl of recoverable oil. Det norske is operator with 50%.
COO Øyvind Bratsberg said: “Going forward the company will concentrate its resources on the Draupne field development and smaller developments, such as Jetta. Frøy will be developed at a later stage, and possibly with a different development solution.”
