Deen Dayal facilities coming together off India

Offshore staff

AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands -- Development of the Deen Dayal field off eastern India is progressing as planned, according to partner Jubilant Energy.

Engineers India Ltd. is project manager. The wellhead platform is under construction in Malaysia and will be transported to India for offshore installation by May 2011. Work on the onshore gas terminal is slightly ahead of schedule.

Tenders for the production and living quarters platform and gas turbines were received last October, and the contract award should follow this spring, leading to commissioning in 2013.

The pipeline tender was issued in December, and a contract should be awarded by mid-year.

Appraisal well DDE-APP-1 on the Deen Dayal East field, in 101 m (331 ft) of water, was spudded on Jan. 1. This is the second appraisal well in the DDE area of the Krishna Godavari basin block.

Target depth of the well is 5,634 m (18,484 ft) MD, and the aim is to appraise the hydrocarbon-bearing sands discovered by the KG-16 well. As of March 31 the well was at 5,344 m (17,533 ft) MD.

Jubilant expects the cost of this well to come in below the original estimate of $50 million.

India’s government should shortly approve an extension of the Deen Dayal West contract area by 20.5 sq km (7.9 sq mi) in the southwest section, potentially increase reserves and resources.
