LONDON – Wood Group Kenny will launch two joint industry projects valued at a total of $1 million to benefit deepwater and long-tieback locations. The projects include 12 operators and three subsea contractors, and will last 12 to 18 months.

The first project, SURF IM, relates to the integrity management of subsea, umbilical, riser, and flowline (SURF) systems. This JIP aims to establish a best-practice method to develop an integrated integrity management strategy for SURF systems, with a focus on deepwater and subsea equipment.

The second project is SLARP – Slug Loading and Response in Pipelines, where the word pipelines in this case refers to jumper spools, free spanning pipelines, and risers. This initiative is being driven by the problem to properly design such pipelines to avoid undesirable vibrations caused by slug and turbulence loading while transporting combined gas and liquid phases in the pipeline.
