OSLO, Norway -- STEP Offshore, a subsidiary of Aker Solutions, has delivered a drilling fluid and well control system to Rolls-Royce Marine for Talisman Energy’s Yme field development in the Norwegian North Sea.

The skid-mounted system will provide drilling fluid circulation and well control. According to STEP, the equipment can be transported easily to and from the Yme production platform, with easy hook-up to the light workover rig for interventions in already drilled and completed wells.

STEP’s packages comprises trip tanks, pumps, remotely controlled valves, a stand pipe manifold, a choke and kill manifold, HPU, instrumentation, and a control system.

Its main functions are to continuously monitor the drilling fluid volume in the well via the dual trip tank system while tripping in and out of the hole; route drilling fluid from seawater pumps or the water injection system to the standpipe, trip tank system or choke and kill manifold; and to perform choke and kill operations.

Control of the trip tank system is from the driller’s control desk, while the chokes are controlled from a standalone control panel in the driller's cabin. The choke control panel provides a 19-in. (48-cm.) touch screen for clear control of the choking process.
