LONDON -- Qatargas has commissioned Penspen Group to develop a detailed design for a new flexible grouted clampto speed repairs of large-diameter subsea pipelines offshore Qatar.

This concept is seen as a way of repairing anchor damage such as dents, gouges, and displacement, as part of the development of the company’s emergency pipeline repair system. Qatargas is working with Penspen to develop a modular repair system that could be adapted to suit a variety of non-leaking damage scenarios.

According to Penspen, conventional clamps are adequate for repairing a leaking defect induced by corrosion. But these types of clamps cannot be easily fitted to pipelines that have been displaced and distorted, nor do they incorporate structural grouts that would support damage and prevent failure of the defect under the clamp.

Penspen has contracted FoundOcean to provide consultancy services to aid grout selection and design of the clamp grout delivery system, and to perform verification tests.

The completed design should be delivered in June.
