NPD authorizes well programs

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has issued new drilling permits to Lundin Petroleum and BG Norge.

OSLO, Norway -- The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has issued new drilling permits to Lundin Petroleum and BG Norge.

Lundin is cleared to drill wildcat 16/3-4 in North Sea license PL 501, comprising part-blocks 16/2, 3, 5, and 6 using the semisubmersible Bredford Dolphin. The well will be drilled 6 km (3.7 mi) southeast of Lundin’s Avaldsnes (16/2-6) oil discovery. This will be the seventh well drilled on the license, which was awarded in December 2004.

BG has approval to drill wildcat 6604/2-1 in the Norwegian Sea in PL 522, 45 km (28 mi) southeast of the Asterix gas discovery and 60 km (37 mi) north of another undeveloped gas accumulation, Norske Shell’s Gro. The harsh environment semiAker Barents will drill the well in after it has completed its current program on well 6305/9-2 for Det Norske oljeselskap. PL 522 comprises blocks 6604/2, 6604/3, 6604/4, 6604/5, and 6604/6. This will be the first well on the license, issued in May 2009.
