HOUSTON – McMoRan Oil & Gas has awarded Global Industries Ltd. the job of decommissioning and abandoning seven production platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. The campaign is scheduled to begin in April and last as many as 100 days.

For execution of the project, Global says it will use the DLB Hercules, a DP-2 equipped vessel capable of lifting 2,000 tons. The 485-ft Hercules will do 14 major lifts up to 1,500 tons (1,360 metric tons). Global also will use cutting tools developed by Norse Cutting & Abandonment, its partner in the rapidly growing decommissioning field.
