PERTH, Australia -- Apache Energy has ordered Mobilarm's VHF DSC locator beacons to provide man overboard alerting and location for staff on the Reindeer wellhead platform off northwest Australia.

The 35 VHF DSC locator beacons will be carried by maintenance crew assisting rescue and survival if an emergency evacuation or man overboard (MOB) situation arises.

Maintenance may involve working near unprotected edges over water where the man overboard risk is strong, but the crew would also be at risk during emergency evacuation of the platform.

The Mobilarm technology provides voice and DSC distress alerts which can be picked up by any VHF DSC radio, including accurate GPS coordinates of every individual in the water. Theoretically, this expands the number of potential rescuers to all nearby platforms and passing vessels within radio range, as well as incoming SAR helicopters.
