WINDSOR, UK -- Centrica has awarded Heerema Hartlepool an engineering, procurement, construction, and nstallation contract for a platform for the York gas field development in the UK southern North Sea.

Work on the unmanned facility will start next month. It will comprise 1,300-metric ton (1,433-ton) topsides supported by a 1,450-metric ton (1,598-ton) jacket. The topsides will be 20 m (65.6 ft) long, 15 m (49 ft) wide and 16 m (52 ft) high, while the jacket will be 69 m (226 ft) high, with a footprint of 30 x 20 m (98.4 x 65.6 ft). It will be installed in 43 m (141 ft) water depth.

Heerema Marine Contractors will manage transport and installation of the platform, which will be connected to Centrica’s Easington gas terminal to the southwest via a 34-km (21.25-mi), 16-in. (40.6-cm) pipeline.

Currently, the Hartlepool yard is building a 1,100-metric ton (1,212-ton) platform for Ensign, another Centrica UK gas development project. This Seaharvester-type structure will comprise a 600-metric ton (661-ton) topsides and a 500-metric ton (551-ton) jacket, designed by HFG Engineering. The completed Ensign platform should be ready for installation in June.

These two contracts should secure jobs for the workforce at Hartlepool through mid-2012.
