NEW ORLEANS – The US Coast Guard reports airlifting two people who abandoned an oil production platform 50 mi (80 km) offshore Grand Isle in the Gulf of Mexico. The GI 102A platform in Grand Isle block 115, owned by Arena, reportedly caught fire.

The two-man platform crew were picked up from an escape capsule by the passing vessel Stormridge and subsequently taken from there to shore by Coast Guard helicopter.

The fire is now extinguished and a watch established to guard against re-flashes. The platform was shut-in and not producing at the time and no spill has been observed at the site.
