LONDON -- Kosmos Energy has discovered further hydrocarbons offshore Ghana with its latest exploration well on the Teak prospect.

Teak-2 was drilled by theAtwood Hunter to a TD of 3,409 m (11,184 ft) in 885 m (2,903 ft) water depth in the West Cape Three Points license. The well encountered 27 m (88 ft) of net hydrocarbon-bearing Campanian and Turonian reservoirs.

It was targeting an undrilled fault block between the Jubilee field and the Teak-1 discovery, at a location 1.8 km (1.12 mi) southwest of the Teak-1 well and 3.5 km (2.18 mi) northeast of the Mahogany-2 well.

According to partner Tullow Oil, results of drilling, wireline logs and samples of reservoir fluids confirm that the well intersected five intervals containing high quality oil, gas, and gas/condensate.

Highlights included 6 m (19.7 ft) of net oil and gas pay at the top of good-quality Campanian reservoirs, over 100 m (328 ft) thick.

Jubilee-equivalent Turonian reservoirs contain 21 m (69 ft) of net hydrocarbon pay, 16 m (52 ft) of which is rich gas. Tullow says static pressure data suggest this may form a gas cap to the Jubilee oil field - further analysis and future pressure interference testing will determine hydrocarbon contacts and the extents of these two adjoining fields.

On completion of operations, the well will be suspended for future use.Atwood Hunter will next drill the Banda-1 well, targeting Campanian and Cenomanian reservoirs in the east of the license.

Angus McCoss, Tullow’s Exploration Director, said: “The Campanian reservoirs at Teak-2 confirm significant up-dip potential in the greater Teak area.”
