LONDON -- EnCore Oil says its Burgman side track well 28/9-4z in the UK North Sea has encountered hydrocarbons in the targeted Lower Tay sandstone interval.

The well, in central block 28/9, was drilled directionally with a hole angle up to 64º to TD of 5,237 ft (1,596 m). Initial analysis indicates 135 ft (41 m) of net oil pay over a gross reservoir interval of 135 ft, equivalent to 64 ft (19.5 m) of net vertical oil pay over a gross vertical interval of 64 ft true vertical thickness.

Preliminary log analysis suggests average porosity of 38%, better than in the original Burgman well, with oil in place in the range of 80-120 MMbbl.

Following completion of this well, theTransocean Galaxy II jackup will be demobilized.

Alan Booth, EnCore's CEO, said: "This is an excellent result and supports the partnership's geophysical model for the identification of Tay sands over the Burgman structure. The sand thickness and quality was very much at the upper end of our pre-side track expectations drilling program. EnCore is now looking forward to the results of drilling at Cladhan, which we hope will be within the next 10 days or so.”
