HOUSTON – Coastal Energy has found oil at its Bua Ban North A-01 exploration well in the Gulf of Thailand.

The well found 32 ft (9 ¾ m) of net pay in the Miocene and 27 ft (8 ¼ m) net pay in the Upper Oligocene. Both show 25% average porosity, Coastal says. The Eocene was encountered 700 ft (213 m) deeper than expected. While it had 70 ft (21 m) of oil bearing sands with 14% porosity and low permeability it is not expected to flow naturally.

Coastal is mobilizing a MOPU to the location and plans to begin flow testing the well once facilities installation is complete.

The Bua Ban North A-02 well is underway and will test Miocene, Oligocene, and Eocene targets similar to those in the A-01 well in an upthrown fault block.
