Antrim targets add-ons for Fyne

CALGARY, Canada -- Antrim Energy has secured a rig to drill two wells mid-year in the Greater Fyne Area in the UK central North Sea.

The company has signed a letter of award with AGR Peak Well Management for well project management and drilling services, including use of the semisub WilPhoenix.

Drilling of the two wells should take 50 days, excluding testing. Antrim plans to initiate a site survey of both locations during the next three weeks.

The first well will be directed at the Jurassic Fulmar formation in the West Teal prospect in block 21/24b (Antrim 100%). Here the company targets light oil 37º API) delineated by 3D seismic and a discovery well drilled in 1991. That well encountered a gross oil column up to 140 ft (42.6 m) thick in the Fulmar formation, but had to be abandoned due to mechanical problems while conducting a cased hole test.

West Teal is structurally up dip and roughly 4 km (2 ½ mi) west of the Teal field, which has produced 55 MMbbl of oil to date for Shell.

The second well should target the Eocene Tay formation in the Carra structure at a depth of around 6,000 ft (1,829 m), in block 21/28b (Antrim 100%). Carra is a medium gravity (25º API) prospect delineated by 3D seismic, on trend and 4 km from West Guillemot field.

A discovery on either of these prospects could be factored into the scheduled development of the Fyne field, 3 km (1.8 mi) northwest of Carra.
